The Idea for Parksy
Parksy was born out of a real-world problem encountered by our founder, Daniel Battaglia. After returning from his travels around the world, Daniel experienced firsthand the frustration of searching for parking in Sydney's busy Paddington area. As he circled the streets, he noticed numerous empty driveways – a lightbulb moment that would change the parking landscape in Australia. "I quickly got frustrated when I couldn't find any street parking. I noticed many empty driveways on my friend's street, and when I told him I cannot find a parking space, he showed me his empty garage. That's when Parksy emerged as an idea," recalls Daniel Battaglia, as quoted in his book Parksy: Making Life Easier. This experience led to the concept of connecting drivers seeking parking with homeowners who had spare spaces. The idea resonated with many, addressing a common urban challenge. In February 2012, after four months of development in a community workspace, Parksy was officially launched.

How Parksy Works
Our platform is designed with simplicity and user-friendliness in mind. Here's how it works:- Drivers can search for available parking spaces in their desired location.
- Property owners list their unused parking spaces, whether it's a driveway, garage, or dedicated spot.
- Users can book spaces for short-term or long-term use, depending on their needs.

Our Growth and Impact
Since our launch in 2012, Parksy has experienced significant growth and made a substantial impact on the Australian parking landscape. We've expanded our services beyond Sydney to cover major cities across the country, including Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and more. Our community has grown to include thousands of parking space owners and tens of thousands of drivers who regularly use our platform. This growth is a testament to the real need for innovative parking solutions in urban areas. According to the average Australian city dweller spends significant time searching for parking, contributing to urban congestion and emissions. By providing an efficient alternative, Parksy is helping to address these urban challenges.Innovations and Future Directions
As we've grown, we've continued to innovate and expand our offerings, we're excited about the potential for integrating advanced parking technologies into our platform. Some of our recent developments include from best in class providers:- Integration with maps API to provide parking data and navigation to available spots.
- Development of generative AI for personalized parking information and recommendations.
- Leveraging traffic data API to provide near real-time traffic patterns.
- Incorporating weather API to factor weather conditions into parking recommendations, especially for outdoor lots and street parking
